Understanding Gifted Children

This talk is designed for parents of identified or suspected gifted children between the ages of 3 and 10 years.

This talk will help parents understand the social, emotional, cognitive, and academic needs and challenges that come with advanced ability. Topics covered: • When and why to identify giftedness • Types of giftedness: cognitive vs. specific academic vs. high ability children • Asynchronous (uneven) development in gifted children • Social and emotional characteristics of typical gifted children • Biological age vs. cognitive abilities • Choosing activities and finding appropriate peers • Coordinating with schools to develop enriching academic activities • Local and national resources for families of gifted children The talk will also include time for Q&A, so bring questions!
